The typefaces Moonlight Regular and Moonlight Outline were created as part of the university course Modular Type Design, where the task was to develop a type system based on repeating geometric elements. Inspired by the elegance and weightlessness of outer space, the result is a dual-style type family built on circular modules that combine clarity, rhythm, and subtle futurism.

The assignment focused on exploring modularity as a design principle. Using a limited set of circular base elements that reference the form and symbolism of the moon, the goal was to construct a complete alphabet. This concept of weightless geometry became the core idea behind Moonlight and expresses the soft, orbit-like motion of the modules while maintaining structure, coherence and legibility.

The development process combined analog exploration with digital refinement. It began with hand-sketched modules and letter experiments, followed by extensive testing of shapes, spacing and visual rhythm. After establishing a consistent system, the typeface was built and refined in Glyphs, where proportions, spacing and optical adjustments were carefully tuned to ensure that every character works both individually and as part of a harmonious modular alphabet.

The final outcome includes an OpenType font in two styles, a type specimen and a presentation. To demonstrate the typeface in a practical context, I created a fictional sports nutrition brand called AstroFuel and designed packaging and visuals and a web design concept using Moonlight. This allowed the type family to reveal its full potential by uniting technical precision with expressive and contemporary branding.
