In collaboration with WEI SRAUM Designforum Tirol and Tirol Werbung, our student group engaged in a Future Lab project to explore and reimagine the visual identities of the various Tyrolean tourism associations. Through this research-based design investigation, we analyzed the corporate design systems of 34 regional tourism entities, uncovering the color palettes, typographic choices, imagery, and brand tone that define their communications. The aim was not merely to critique, but to translate our findings into a cohesive narrative and visual framework that speaks to both tradition and future potential.

Our approach combined rigorous visual analysis with strategic thinking: we developed a set of criteria to evaluate and compare the different regional design languages, which we then refined in dialogue with Tirol Werbung and WEI SRAUM. At the same time, I and a teammate worked closely on the imagery — dissecting photographic styles, examining the role of regional landscapes, cultural motifs and human presence. We translated our research into infographics, spatial visualizations and curated photo compositions, bringing structure to the complex data and breathing life into the underlying visual stories.

The final outcome was an exhibition titled “Visuelle Vermessung – Tourismus & Gestaltung in Tirol”, held at WEI SRAUM in Innsbruck. There, our visual analyses, infographics and photographic narratives were presented together, offering visitors tangible insights into how design shapes perceptions of tourism in Tyrol. The installation invites reflection on how visual identity influences regional branding — and on how storytelling and design can serve as tools for future-oriented, culturally rooted marketing.
